What does it mean to be all in on your health? I remember being a younger version of myself and thinking that i just didn’t want to suffer anymore. I was tired of being miserable and turning to alcohol and numbing out with various activities instead of looking at what was really happening in my mind, heart and soul. I was ready to do something different and I had committed to changing my life. I knew that there had to be a better way.

I hear many people say that they want things to be different or they want to feel better or they want clarity, and yet they don’t have the tools. With the tools I have learned over the years, that I can offer a new way of looking at things for them.

One thing I’ve watched over 20 years of teaching both at the university and in my own business, is that some people are all in and have reached a point where they just can’t do life the way they have been doing it. They are all in. They make space for the inner work they need to do and they make room for the outer work (like changing the food). There is a commitment.

Now this doesn’t have to look like a big time commitment. It can be lots of small steps as part of a big commitment. It’s more about a knowing and a feeling that you are all in. It takes setting up your “why” or the reason that you want to make these changes. It could be that you want to show your kids that you are a Mom that can play with them and not be exhausted in bed all the time. It could be that you just simply don’t want to be in pain any more, or that you want to be able to be active with your partner. The idea that you have to quit eating the things that taste good isn’t going to help you shift your health. You have to see the underlying reason.

Sometimes you have to hit the rock bottom- the part where you just can’t stand the way you feel when you eat the cookies ONE. MORE. TIME.  The part where you know you just can’t do it any more.

This commitment also takes a heaping helping of self-compassion. It’s not about beating yourself up to get change to happen. It’s about being there for yourself, and creating a new conversation in your head about whatever it is you want to do. You want to have more energy for your kids? Then that’s what you have to remind yourself of with love and compassion when you reach for the ice cream or the nachos. Kindly. Lovingly. Yes there may be days when you just can’t do it. We all have those. I was totally in that place yesterday and I just had to say I just can’t do one more thing and went to totally zone out. Yep, That happens. And then I don’t beat myself up about it. I just look at what brought me there: what emotions happened, what did I need that I wasn’t getting, and I take care of myself AND step back into the arena.

And listen, I have a secret to tell you. When you are all in, there are going to be bumps in the road. Life is a bumpy road! And when you are all in, you are going to come up against alllllll the stuff in your life that has been pushed aside and kept in. That’s why this work is so important. It isn’t just about having more veggies on your plate (although that’s a great start!) it’s about how you can nourish and take care of yourself with loving compassion.

And that’s why it’s so helpful to have a coach or a guide. I think everyone needs a coach. My friends and I talk about this. We wonder how people go around in life without a coach. I mean I know it’s possible, it’s just in my experience so much easier when I have someone in my corner, reminding me of my the reason I’m doing this really hard thing. Someone who is there for me when I’m ready to quit. Someone who can hold my hand and remind me how to take good care of myself if I forget. A coach or a guide is someone who travels with you as you traverse those bumps in life’s bumpy road.

If you are looking for someone to help guide you to get unstuck and move forward in your health and your life, I’m going to offer the Whole Body Upgrade course again later this year, or if you don’t want to wait, you can work with me in a single session, or a package of 6 sessions called the Vibrant Health package. I I’ll guide you on a path from exhausted and stuck, to feeling better and having more energy and feeling like yourself again. Don’t wait to start feeling better!
